In 1994, Dr. Mae Jemison developed The Earth We Share international camp programs that have been held across
the US and internationally. Collaborating with the Los Angeles Unified School District, TEWS-Space Race is winner of a
NASA Summer of Innovation award. This partnership gives students a unique chance to open their minds, hearts, and
eyes to their own talent, and to the entire field of aviation, aerospace, space flight and exploration careers.
Summer of Innovation (SoI) is designed to promote science achievement and aspirations for students from
underrepresented groups - including girls and minorities - in science and technical fields.
Los Angeles area teachers earn professional development hours in NASA - SoI related content while learning an exciting,
unique, and effective method for teaching science and building critical thinking and problem solving skills with TEWS
innovative methodology!
